Collection: Michelle Valberg | Beyond the Spectrum: Infrared Wavelengths
March 8 - 22
Now for something completely different. As a wildlife photographer, I've always been drawn to capturing the natural world in its raw, authentic beauty. With my Beyond the Spectrum: Infrared Wavelengths exhibition, I wanted to step outside the familiar, challenge my own perspective and invite viewers to see the world through a new lens—literally. Using my Nikon ZF camera, converted to infrared, I’ve explored how unseen light can transform the landscapes and wildlife I’ve loved photographing for years.
From the stunningly beautiful Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary to the wild coasts of Vancouver Island, the haunting beauty of the Great Bear Rainforest, the raw wilderness of Botswana, the geothermal wonders of Yellowstone, and the rich textures of the Fanal Forest in Portugal, these images transcend the visible spectrum. Infrared photography strips away what we expect to see and reveals hidden layers—turning lush greens into ethereal whites and skies into dark canvases.
Each piece shimmers with an almost surreal vibrancy, amplifying the textures and contrasts that infrared brings to life. This show is about stretching the boundaries of how we perceive nature. It’s a reminder that there’s always more to discover, even in the places we think we know. Beyond the Spectrum is my journey into the unseen, an exploration of light beyond the ordinary, and an invitation for you to see the world in ways you never imagined.

Stanley Wany, Ice Cream Truck 1
In Ice Cream Truck 1, Montreal-based artist Stanley Wany invites us into a
vibrant, densely layered scene that is both personal and universally familiar.
Inspired by summers spent at his uncle’s home in Queens, New York, Wany captures
the joyful chaos and cultural convergence that gathered around the unmistakable
jingle of the ice cream truck. Rendered in fine pen lines and rich textures,
the work reflects a diverse cross-section of humanity, with figures drawn from
memory, myth, and observation, all orbiting the iconic vehicle of childhood
summer.
This piece is part of Wany’s Ice Cream Truck series, which explores themes of
identity, cultural hybridity, and the evolving relationship between mainstream
and counterculture. With roots in pop surrealism and Lowbrow art, Wany’s
compositions feel both playful and profound. They prompt us to consider how
race, class, and history shape cultural experiences. The all-over composition,
filled to the edges, mirrors the layered complexities of modern urban life:
celebratory, contradictory, and always in motion.

Ice Cream Truck 1 is a testament to Wany’s multidisciplinary approach,
where fine art, graphic storytelling, and cultural critique come together
seamlessly. It is a snapshot of memory, myth, and meaning, served with a touch
of sweetness.
