Suzanne Crudden
View artist biographySuzanne Crudden found artistic expression and design intuitive from an early age. As she got older she came to understand that the hours she spent entertaining herself as a child, drawing and creating new outfits for her Princess Diana paper doll was called ‘design’. Now, as an emerging designer in Toronto, Suzanne enjoys focusing her passion for the imagination in unique yet timeless jewellery.
Inspired by the exhilaration that ideas bring and the creative process that forms them in reality, Suzanne hesitates to limit herself with boundaries. Influenced by her love of history, Suzanne’s work embodies classical elegance with a contemporary twist; however, she also enjoys letting a design take its shape naturally often resulting in organic and even literal shapes.
Suzanne’s academic journey began with degrees in Anthropology and Fine Art from the University of Toronto. In pursuit of combining history and art she enrolled in the George Brown Jewellery Methods Program graduating in 2006. Recently, Suzanne has returned to the classroom as a metal-smithing teacher affording her the opportunity to not only pass on her skill but also continue the learning adventure.
Today, Suzanne creates wearable pieces and custom designs using precious metals and gemstones. As a student of anthropology she has learned that the first essential function of jewellery was the expression of individuality through adornment. Suzanne designs her pieces with this essential function in mind and delights in working with her clients to create their own special, unique expressions in jewellery.
